Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) is a private, non-denominational development agency, which develops sustainable solutions to poverty and
marginalization. In India, AKF works with a community-based, participatory approach across eight states.
The Foundation works in the thematic areas of Health, Education and Rural Development through both direct implementation and outreach
strategies. In addition, AKF works to strengthen civil society institutions and delivery of services through public systems.
The Aga Khan Foundation is entering a new and exciting strategic phase in its development portfolio in India ? starting important multi-sector
rural programmes in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, and revising and expanding projects in the western states and Andhra Pradesh.
Education is a core thematic priority among Aga Khan Foundation India's programmes. It is promoted both through sector-specific projects and
as an important and integral component of multi-sector programmes.
The current education portfolio is diverse and challenging. It is active in seven states of north, western and south India; is both community and
school-based, and rural and urban; works with private and public systems; has special strengths in early childhood development and early
primary education and a strategic direction to incorporate aspects of secondary education; and works through an extensive partnership network
as well as direct implementation.
The main duties and responsibilities of the position include
? Lead the AKF Education team in Delhi; develop the team's capacity and maintain high levels of quality, productivity, motivation and focus.
? Ensure that AKF's Education strategy is relevant to the development context, national priorities and community aspirations, innovative, and
focused on solutions.
? Design Education programmes which deliver quality education to poor and marginalized communities.
? Oversee and monitor programme implementation, providing strategic direction, institutional capacity building, technical advice, problem
resolution and course corrections.
? Promote evidence-based policy influence and transfer of lessons to public systems and other networks through substantive analysis of AKF
programmes and external best practice.
? Develop strategic partnerships with other Aga Khan agencies, government agencies, corporations, civil society organizations and research institutions.
? Ensure the timely preparation and submission of all narrative and financial reports and budgets to AKF's National Committee and Board,
and to donor agencies.
? Support the CEO in resource mobilisation, particularly in development of project proposals.
The candidate should have an advanced degree in education, social sciences or development studies. Other requirements are: ten years of
experience in programme implementation of education projects, with at least five years in senior management positions; analytical knowledge
of systemic deficiencies in Education in India, and identification of appropriate opportunities for response; ability to develop and articulate proposals
through various forms of documentation and presentation, both verbal and written; networking, relationship building and influencing educationalists,
practitioners and policy makers.
