CHIEF OPERATIONS OFFICER (COO)

Established in 1983, the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (India) (AKRSP(I)) is a non-profi t, organisation working to organise and empower rural communities and marginalized groups, particularly women, through natural resource management interventions in the three states of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar. The impact on livelihoods of rural communities over a quarter of a century has been long lasting and successful. Through this work we have been able to proactively infl uence government policies and programmes both at State and National level. On the basis of these activities we wish to expand our work geographically and thematically over next 10 years. We are looking for a dynamic and committed development professional as the Chief Operations Officer.
The role:
You will provide strategic leadership to programme development, expand the programme to the new geographies, strengthen partnerships with NGOs, infl uence practices and polices of the Government at state and national level, and explore innovative engagements with the private sector. You will mobilise and manage resources including funding, fi nance and people. You will bring well-grounded analytical understanding of rural development issues in India; innovative and solution-focussed thinking; high levels of productivity and quality output; and strong processes of team building and management.
Qualifi cation and Experience:
You should have a postgraduate degree in management, natural sciences or social sciences with relevant experience in the development sector with at least 7 years experience in a strategic leadership role. You should have a strong profi le of applying various development approaches including policy infl uencing, community development & facilitation and innovative programming. You should have experience and skills in dealing with senior Government offi cials/donors at the state and national levels.

? Strong belief in the values governing civil society and understanding of the unique role of independent civil society, including cross cutting values of AKRSP (I) such as gender and inclusiveness.
? Keen to explore the new roles and approaches of civil society in a rapidly changing India.
? Strategic leadership for effective programme design, delivery and impact.
? Networking and representation skills with a variety of stakeholders including Government, NGOs and private sector.
? Management skills including programmes, people, budget and Management Information Systems (MIS).
? Good interpersonal communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of stake holders.
? Fluent in written and spoken English, Hindi and/or Gujarati.
? Proficiency in major computer applications.
? Willingness to travel.
