The University is an integral part of the vision of the Azim Premji Foundation. The University works closely with the other field based institutions and programmes of the Foundation. This connects it directly to the world of practice and the ground realities of India.

Our vision and concerns are reflected in all the strands of our work: the degree programmes, the continuing education of field practitioners and research.
The University provides a vibrant, multi-disciplinary environment. We commenced operations in July 2011. Our faculty group is already more than 40 strong, which is working together in this exciting phase of building the University. We intend to have 350 faculty members in 5 years.

We invite academicians and field practitioners who resonate with the purpose of the University and enjoy working in teams, to join us as Faculty Members.
We welcome people from a wide range of academic backgrounds: from Humanities and Social Sciences, Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Engineering and Management. Practitioners with deep on-the-ground experience are equally welcome. A strong interest in applying themselves to the fields of Education and/or Development would be essential for all.

Specific areas of expertise which are of interest to us include:

Education:

History of Education, Teacher Education, Early Childhood Care and Education, School Leadership & Management, Curriculum, Pedagogy (e.g. Math, Social Science), Special Education, Education Technology and Education Psychology.

Development:

Health & Nutrition, Gender Studies, Governance, Public Policy, Livelihoods and Sustainability.
