Department of Economics & Politics, Visva-Bharati is organizing a National Seminar on "Prospects and Challenges for Rural Economic Development" during March 11-13, 2011 under the SAP-DRS?I programme sponsored by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi. We invite abstract (500 words) or full paper in MS word format on the broad theme of the seminar. The papers must have an economic focus. In particular, we welcome papers from the following fields (the list is indicative, not exhaustive):
A. Reforms in the agricultural sector
B. Internal and external trade in agricultural commodities
C. Regional pattern of agricultural development
D. Price Policy and public distribution system
E. Spatial efficiency of agricultural markets
F. Employment, inequality and rural poverty
G. Inclusive growth
H. Rural livelihood security
I. Rural infrastructure credit and agro-processing
J. Irrigation and watershed management
K. Link between changing food baskets and production patterns
L. Climate change and agriculture
M. Sustainable development
N. Rural local governance
O. Conflict between agriculture and industry
P. Informal sector and rural development
Submission of Papers:
The paper stating the sub-themes under which the paper comes, contact address with telephone number and email address, and the institutional affiliation of the author(s) must reach the Seminar Committee at [email protected]. We encourage young researchers to submit and present their works. All accepted papers will be refereed and may be published in a conference volume.
The registration fee for the seminar is Rs.500.00. Limited travel subsidy may be
provided to the paper presenters. However, local hospitality will be made available by the organizers.
Important Dates:
· Last date for receiving abstracts: January30, 2011
· Intimation of acceptance of abstracts: February 7, 2011
· The last date for receiving the full length papers: February 15, 2011
· Decision of full papers: February 22, 2011
