OUTREACH 2012
A Workshop on
Challenging Careers in Social Sciences and Humanities
The popular perception of undergraduate students is that there are no
exciting professional and intellectual opportunities in the Humanities
and Social Sciences.
On the other hand, transforming societies and communities now require
professionals in these areas to understand, teach, and theorize within
these disciplines. Students who will complete a higher degree in the
Arts and related fields now can look forward to a career in NGOs,
university teaching, civil services, higher education (PhD),
Management and Social Work. Even corporates now hire students trained
in Social Sciences and Humanities because of their writing and
analytical skills.
To highlight and discuss these latest opportunities in the fields of
Social Sciences and Humanities, Manipal Centre for Philosophy and
Humanities, Manipal University is organizing a half-day outreach
program for undergraduates in the final year of their courses in any
stream. Eminent social scientists and philosophers will brief the
students on the future professional and intellectual prospects in
these disciplines. There is no fee for this workshop.

Please note that we are having a program organised by Manipal Centre
for Philosophy and Humanities, in Bangalore for students (from any
stream) interested in studying MA humanities and social sciences. (
Sundar and a few of his colleagues will be speaking). The details are
attached in the brochure. Please pass on the information to those
interested. If any of you are in Bangalore colleges and institutions
