National Seminar on 'State, Social Movements and Democracy in Northeast India'

Interdisciplinary in nature, the seminar will primarily focus on Northeast India. However, it intends to draw experiences from other regions in the country too.
Themes: (i) State, Social Movements and Democracy: the Interface; (ii) Historical Evolution of the State: Pre-colonial, Colonial and Post-colonial Experiences; (iii) Frontiers, Borders and State: Issues of Migration and Security; (iv) Formation of Middle Class and the Modern State: Colonial and Post-colonial Experiences; (v) Social Movements: From Pre-colonial Experiences to the Contemporary Manifestations; (vi) Development and Resistance: Encounter between the State and Communities; (vii) Sixth Schedule: Colonial Legacies, Post-Colonial Construct and Contemporary Challenges.

Confirmation of acceptance of abstracts: 25th January 2013
Last date of submission of full paper (word limit 5000): 15th February 2013

[email protected] Travel and accommodation: The organizers will pay the travel expenses to the invited guests. Other participants with full paper may also be considered for payment of Railway AC III fare or equivalent. Food and accommodation will be taken care of by the organizers.
