MERCY CORPS NEPAL works in Nepal to protect strengthen and expand resilience strategies and opportunities among the poor and disadvantaged through economic, financial and risk management programs. Mercy Corps began operations in Nepal in 2005, and since then has implemented projects in the sectors of economic and food security; climate, natural resource and disaster risk management; youth engagement; with the inclusion of women and disadvantaged groups as important cross-cutting themes throughout each intervention area.
MANAGING RISK THROUGH ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT (MRED) is a 3-year program with the goal to develop and implement a model for integrated disaster risk reduction (DRR) and economic development activities, building sustained and market-driven approaches to DRR that increase resiliency to multiple disasters. Activities initiated at the community and household levels will be those that both mitigate disaster risks and increase income levels. The program will reinforce new or improved economic opportunities by enabling communities and households to access markets for inputs and sales of high demand/ high-value commodities.

POST: PROJECT OFFICER
WORK STATION: Baitadi
The Project Officer will be directly responsible for facilitating, implementing and monitoring effective agriculture value chain interventions, and for supporting interventions that integrate disaster risk reduction practices in their District of responsibility. The Project Officer will work closely with Nepal Red Cross Society, Baitadi District Chapter, various stakeholders and beneficiaries and will ensure coordination at the community as well as at the market level.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
· Bachelor's degree in agriculture sciences, agri-business, economics, social sciences.
· At least 2-3 years of experience in DRR, agricultural livelihoods, value chain development programs.
