SENIOR POLICY ADVISOR
Position Purpose:
Amnesty International India is seeking an expert in human rights, specifically in areas of human rights law, politics, and international relations. The Senior Policy Advisor will have demonstrated ability to lead policy development work in a complex political environment and have recognized expertise in one or more of the following fields of human rights: Discrimination, Armed Conflict, Freedom of Expression, Abuses by non-state actors, Environment and human rights, and Gender Analysis and the human rights of women, including sexual and reproductive rights. The Senior Policy Advisor will develop and apply policies on key human rights issues in a way that maximizes the impact of our work on behalf of rights holders under attack, furthers our strategic objectives, upholds Amnesty International's values and principles and contributes to the collective work of the Law and Policy Programme.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the development of proposed policy positions and the application of Amnesty International's legal analysis to concrete situations, including by creating plans to translate analysis into action, in order to help implement AI India's strategic goals and deliver AI's global campaigns.
Oversee the provision of authoritative, expert advice on the application of policy and legal analysis to country in order to ensure the consistent and coherent application of Amnesty International policy positions to particular contexts.
Write own documents and assist in the preparation of documents by others on current and emerging human rights concerns in a variety of formats that are tailored to particular audiences (for example, briefing documents and discussion papers for internal use, Amnesty International policy guidelines for staff, talking points, op-eds, press releases, lobbying documents, detailed reports) in order to effectively communicate Amnesty International's calls for change and the research and analysis that supports those calls.
Build relationships with external actors who play a key role in influencing international human rights and represent Amnesty International India publicly to raise public awareness of AI India and the global movement and its concerns and position Amnesty International at the forefront of the human rights movement.
Represent AI in meetings with senior government and inter-governmental officials and in the media in order to communicate AI's findings and recommendations for change to decision-makers and to the public. (maybe the advocacy officer will do this)
As required, represent AI in field research missions to contribute to the delivery of high-quality analysis of human rights abuses and effective, evidence-based recommendations for change.
Lead the development of strategies and project plans in order to help ensure delivery of AI's priorities.
Provide training and ongoing guidance to colleagues in order to develop their awareness of Amnesty International's policy approach and their ability to apply human rights policy to particular situations.
Skills and experience required:
Support for and belief in the aims of Amnesty.
Significant professional experience in human rights including field research in India.
Extensive knowledge of law, politics, international relations or other fields related to human rights.
Ability to develop coherent policies based on a detailed understanding of human rights principles and AI's core values.
Ability to apply global policies to local/country situations in a creative yet consistent manner.
Demonstrated ability to lead policy development work in a complex political environment.
Demonstrated research, analytical and writing skills, including recent relevant publication/s.

NETWORK AND ADVOCACY CO-ORDINATOR
Position Purpose:
Amnesty International India seeks a human rights policy expert to help plan and guide advocacy around AI activism and campaigns. The role involves building relations within political and business circles to gain support for AI campaigns. The Co-ordinator would also be responsible for creating and sustaining networks of organizations that AI India can collaborate with in its campaigns.
Responsibilities:
Advocacy
Develop an in-depth understanding of developments in human rights policy and legislation in India.
Provide strategic advice on political realities to campaigns, develop and implement targeted and successful campaigns and projects by influencing politicians and businesses.
Meet with, and present Amnesty India's work to, relevant political and corporate representatives.
Collaborate in the development of policies, standards and strategies on how AI India can work on issues that affect business and politics.
Assist in developing and implementing a political roadmap for campaigns, which influences businesses and state and central government legislation and policy.
Gather information about political processes relevant to campaign work and keep relevant campaigners updated.
Collaborate in building AI India's political presence by participating in and setting up networks and representing AI India in political circles.
Work on lobbying for various campaign-related issues with politicians and businesses.
Represent AI India in alliances in the context of its campaign and project work.
Collaborate in the creation of a network of parliamentarians, business associations and other relevant entities.
Networking
Identify organizations that sympathize with AI India's theme and ideals.
Build relationships and networks with these organizations on behalf of AI India.
Help publicise and develop AI India's image among other organizations.
Maintain a database of all organizations of relevance to AI India.

Skills and experience required:
Commitment to Amnesty International's mission and values.
Academic qualifications in international and domestic politics and law.
Strong knowledge and understanding of the current political climate at the national and regional level and of events that would be of relevance to AI India.
Experience in developing and implementing campaign strategies and tactics in a political and/or business environment.
Proven ability to adapt to and deal with changing circumstances and deadlines.

MEDIA OFFICER
Position Purpose:
Amnesty International India is looking for a media professional / journalist to develop media strategies and plans to help achieve its campaign objectives. The role would involve communicating Amnesty's campaigns and projects to English, Hindi and regional media, and effectively contributing to the development and implementation of strategies to establish a sustained campaign presence across a range of media outlets.
Responsibilities:
Develop an understanding of campaign issues and build a robust media strategy for Amnesty International India's campaign and projects.
Promote research and documentation carried out by Amnesty International India, and develop a strong proactive media strategy.
Develop a strong response strategy to showcase Amnesty International India's role as a conscientious watchdog on human rights issues.
Stay informed about national/international trends, political-economic issues, and other developments relevant to the campaign.
Track news and information on campaigns and related news, both locally and globally.
Understand and use media planning and media analysis techniques to develop media strategies.
Write press releases, advisories in English/Hindi; edit campaign reports and blogs.
Develop a network of media contacts (print & electronic media) and interact with journalists regularly (English/Hindi/regional).
Create and develop opportunities to profile Amnesty International India and its campaigns in the media.
