A Cap-Net/UNDP - SIWI collaboration
Introduction
Cap-Net/UNDP and the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) both have a long-running interest in building the capacity of organisations and individuals for improved water management. Cap-Net is an international network for capacity building in sustainable water management working with networks of capacity building organisations in developing regions. It has partnerships with international organisations and global thematic networks. Its strategy is built on local ownership of a capacity building process and strengths of partners on the ground. To strengthen partner networks and their members, Cap-Net has conducted numerous training of trainers programmes and developed training packages on several themes related to sustainable water management. SIWI is an international policy institute that has developed and run a wide range of water-related training courses aimed at mid-career professionals in Sweden as well as in developing regions. In an effort to capitalise on their respective strengths Cap-Net and SIWI now commit to collaborating on a range of focused, tailored training courses in various locations globally. As a first step, a series of courses will be piloted at the World Water Week (WWW) in Stockholm in August 2011. The approach to developing these courses benefits from training materials and trainers of Cap-Net and the experiences gained by SIWI in offering a similar series of courses.
Objective
The aim is to offer participants of the World Water Week the opportunity to improve their knowledge of water management issues 'on-the-ground' and their water management skills. The courses aim to be practically applicable with an emphasis on providing tools which will better equip the participants in their respective fields of work.
Target group
The courses are designed for persons attending the World Water Week: IWRM practitioners, donors, government representatives, capacity builders, members of civil society organisations and other groups are welcomed. The courses aim to promote IWRM implementation and therefore a multidiscipline target group is aimed for.
Courses
Friday 19 August 2011
Saturday 20 August 2011
The course designs are based on the experience of Cap-Net affiliated networks and SIWI who intensively deliver capacity building for IWRM globally.
Facilitation
The courses will be facilitated by experienced capacity builders from partner networks affiliated to Cap-Net and SIWI. The courses will make use of existing and tested training materials developed by Cap-Net and SIWI that will be made available to the participants. Each course will be an intensive one-day session, using a combination of lectures, facilitated discussion and group exercises.
