Job Summary:
The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a qualified candidate to serve as a Post-Doctoral Fellow to work on the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for a two-year, fixed-term, renewable appointment. The program has a focus on strategy and policy issues in relation to agriculture, the food system, rural development, and poverty reduction. The position reports to the director of the Development Strategy and Governance Division and is based in Kinshasa, DRC.
Essential Duties:
The Fellow will be responsible for a) conducting research, policy advice, capacity strengthening and policy communications in the DRC on the strategic issues of agricultural and rural development and poverty reduction, b) supporting the project to coordinate IFPRI's research activities in that country, and c) supporting the project to communicate with the donors and the government ministries regularly for the project implementation. The Fellow would be responsible for timely completion of research projects, actively publish papers/books, and participate in various conferences, policy advisory forums, and capacity strengthening training programs. More specifically, it includes the following responsibilities:
. Research and Capacity-Building: Based on identified program of work, leading or participating in specific empirical research and synthesis on special studies, organizing or providing support to targeted training programs, and coordinating with Washington-based staff on specific research and training activities;
. Research Coordination: Contributing to the coordination of research related to the project, including coordinating with IFPRI research and outreach staff (both local and Washington-based); liaising with donor and government stakeholders; maintaining regular communication with IFPRI-Washington through regular reporting of activities and budget; and updating annual work program;
. Policy Communication and Liaison: Maintaining active policy communication with national counterparts through policy briefs, workshops, meetings, and other fora; establishing active links with various national research institutions; and liaising with donors on regular basis;
Required Skills:
. Ph D in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Public Policy or closely related field.
. Experience in research on policy issues, related to agricultural production, natural resources, the roles of the state, civil society, and infrastructure, markets and trade
. Knowledge and experience working in Africa
. Ability to work across disciplines
. Excellent written and spoken English
. Excellent written and spoken French
