Uniqueness of the MCPH course:
· No such course in India so far
· The only course in India (perhaps the world) which will bring together philosophy, social sciences and the arts
· The only course which will draw upon both Indian and western intellectual traditions in all the courses
· The only course which will have semester long courses on 'reading and writing' and on critical and creative thinking
· Serious training at the MA level to write a thesis (of about 50 to 60 pages) in the fourth semester
· Presence of international students adds a different dimension to this course
· The subjects will be theme based and not discipline based
We have also managed to get a very subsidized fee for this course. We want to restrict the number of students we take. The students who finish our course can go on to higher studies in any discipline in social sciences and humanities. They will also be well trained in thinking and writing, which will help them if they take up work in NGOs or elsewhere. Not to forget - they can always do the Services exam!
So please pass on the word. All the details of the course will be put on the websitewww.manipal.edu in a week or so. Until then, you can spread the word and encourage those who want to really do a great course to apply to us. Staying in Manipal is also fun - it is close to the sea and to the western ghats. Please ask interested students to write [email protected] for more information.
I would also need your help in finding good faculty - basically young PhDs who want to be part of an exciting new initiative. Please let me know if you know of such people.
