The Asia Research Centre (ARC), London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), invites applications for the following Fellowships:
Sir Ratan Tata Fellowship 2010-11
The 'Sir Ratan Tata Fellowship' will be for a period of up to eight months during the 2010-11 academic year. Applicants should be established scholars in the social sciences with experience of research on South Asia. Preference will be given to topics that focus on contemporary social and economic concerns of South Asia. The Fellowship is open to candidates from South Asia, that is, the SAARC region which includes Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
C. R. Parekh Fellowship 2010-11>
The 'C.R. Parekh Fellowship' will be for a period of three months in the academic year 2010-11. Applicants should be established scholars in the social sciences with experience of research on India. Preference will be given to topics that focus on social, economic, political and constitutional concern to India. The Fellowship is open to candidates from India only.
FURTHER INFORMATION
The Sir Ratan Tata and C. R. Parekh Fellow will be expected to engage in research on a topic under the following themes: Poverty, Inequality, Human Development and Social Exclusion; Quality of Public Life; Regional Disparities; Identities - Gender, Ethnicity, Language; Economy and Environment; Political Structures and Processes; Constitutional Debates.
They will be based at the Asia Research Centre at the LSE, and will receive a monthly subsistence allowance of up to £1,500 a month, the exact amount depending on qualifications. Office space will also be provided together with access to research facilities at the School. The Fellows will be expected to finish a piece of research of publishable quality during their stay and make a presentation at a seminar or lecture arranged by the Asia Research Centre Applicants for either Fellowship should hold a Ph.D. or comparable qualifications and experience - the fellowship is not intended for students registered for a degree or diploma, nor is it intended for senior academics.

Applications should include a curriculum vitae in no more than three pages and an outline of proposed research in no more than three pages. Please use A4-sized plain paper only. Please do not staple your application. Applicants should also give the names and addresses of two referees, familiar with their work. The final date for receipt of applications for both Fellowships is Monday, 17 May 2010. Late applications will not be accepted. The successful candidate will be informed of the decision by the end of August 2010. |
