Rural labourers live in the most precarious conditions, especially in imperialized, poorer countries such as India. They suffer from economic exploitation, which is often carried out through, or coexists with, gender- and caste-based oppression. They are also subjected to relative neglect on the part of the state. The conditions of this class therefore cry out for serious critical scrutiny. The conference aims to bring together scholars who will explore multiple dimensions of the lives of rural labour from a critical perspective. More details are available at the conference website, http://sites.google.com/a/ximb. ac.in/rlni/. Abstracts of papers (maximum 200 words) should be submitted online. Review of abstracts would start on 1st October; so, those received after 30th September would be considered only if space is still left. Completed papers must reach us by 5 December 2010. All participants, including those presenting papers in the conference, must register on-line by 10th December through the above-mentioned website. Registration is free but does not include food or folders. Some or all paper presenters would be offered a Rs.200 Room & Board package or/and financial support towards travel.
