5th, Young Research Scholars Seminar on West Asia: Heritage and Transformation

Introduction
Contemporary West Asia has been one of the most debated and contested issues in the discipline of International Relations. The transformative nature of the region since early civilisations is quite crucial and significant in understanding the socio-economic and political dynamics of the region. Colonialism also played an important role in shaping the concepts of modern nation-states and its practices. Considering these developments this seminar encourages interdisciplinary approach and seeks to provide a platform for budding scholars’ to exchange ideas, initiate a space for academic debate and discussion on the socio-economic, political, and foreign policy issues of the region.
Therefore the students’ representative of the SFC, at the Centre for West Asian Studies, JNU intends to organise this seminar on the following sub-themes:

· Status of Women in West Asia
· Social Movements and Role of Media in West Asia
· Understanding Arab Spring
Interested scholars may submit an abstracts (maximum 300 words) by 25th February 2014.
