Workshop on Feminist Research Methodology

WORKSHOP ON FEMINIST RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Inter University Centre for Social Science Research and Extension (IUCSSRE), Mahatma Gandhi University, is organizing a six day workshop on Feminist Research Methodology from 26 September to 1 October 2011. The workshop will explore theoretical research foundations of feminist research, its nature and purpose, its epistemology, and the methodology that makes it 'distinct'. The workshop will provide critical insights on feminist critique of traditional approaches; role of feminist historiography in historical inquiry, feminist challenges to mainstream economic and social enquiry, and on women's writings and representation. It will also look into how gender intersects with categories like caste, class and other systems of domination.

The course will focus on following thematic areas:-

  • Feminist Approaches to theories of Knowledge
  • Women's writing and Representation
  • Gender & Development
  • Gender in History, Politics & Caste
  • Sex, Body and Violence
  • Sexuality and masculinity
  • Gender & Law

 

Prof. Susie Tharu, Prof. Uma Chakraborthy, Prof. Mary E John, Prof. Padmini Swaminadhan and Prof. Jayati Lal will be the main resource persons for the workshop.


The workshop will be structured as an intermix of lectures and presentations.  There shall be presentations of researchers which will be discussed by the discussants.   M.Phil/ PhD Students who are doing research in any of these areas are welcome to apply.   Please send your detailed CV, a covering letter, and synopsis of the research topic in thousand words (containing the research problem, objectives and method of research) and a recommendation letter from department/university. Food and accommodation for the participants for the entire duration of the workshop will be taken care of by the organizers. Participants will be provided II Class Sleeper train fare.

Last date for submission of proposal (in English), along with a bio-data is 15 July 2011. Selected candidates will be intimated within 10 days and will be required to submit a detailed working draft by August 15th. This will be pre-circulated among the experts.
