University of Oxford - Centre On Migration, Policy And Society (COMPAS)

Grade 8: Salary £36,715 - £43,840 with a discretionary range to £47,905 p.a.

The Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (COMPAS) at the University of Oxford is seeking to appoint a Senior Researcher with advanced expertise in the statistical analysis of quantitative data on migration and migrants in the UK, and with experience of public engagement on policy issues, for a period of three years. There may be an option of continued employment after three years subject to satisfactory performance and funding. We also welcome secondments of one year or longer.

This is a full-time, 36 month, fixed-term post commencing in April 2010, or as soon as possible thereafter. COMPAS has recently obtained external funding for the development of MIDAS (Migration Data and Analysis at Oxford), a website based initiative aiming to become the premier source of rigorous and independent analysis of data on migrants and migration in the UK, to inform media, public and policy debates as well as academic analysis.

MIDAS wishes to employ a Senior Researcher who will provide statistical analysis of large-scale data on migrants and migration in the UK, engage in public and policy debates, and contribute to proactively communicating MIDAS data and analysis through engagement with national and international media outlets.

Applicants will hold a postgraduate degree (at least a Masters degree or equivalent) in economics, demography or another relevant social science discipline and in-depth knowledge of and experience with analysing and interpreting large scale data sets. The postholder will be based at the offices of COMPAS in Oxford, and accountable to the Director of MIDAS, Dr Martin Ruhs.
