Seminar on land rights
The need for organizing the conference stems from the absence of effective legal supportsystems specifically working for the cause of land rights of the rural poor. The rural poor arevery often unable to secure their land rights, even when the claim to land involves no disputeof law or fact, and the claim goes unacknowledged as a result of administrative failures. Ininstances where the land claim is in dispute before Civil and Revenue (Land) courts, the poorare poorly represented and lack of legal support is forcing them to end in perpetual litigationand ultimately lose their right over the land. In light of the above background the conferenceaims at drawing a platform to discuss and address problems faced by the rural poor in securingtheir land rights. Further, the conference would also endeavor to study the experiences ofvarious organizations working for the cause of the rural poor and also to comprehend andcommunicate the usefulness of paralegals in working towards resolution of securing land claimsand resolving land disputes at the grass roots. On this basis it may be possible to arrive at aninformed judgment on the need for legal support for the needy rural poor fighting land disputes, among various Legal thinkers, activists, NGOs, Law Colleges and Government Institutions.Interested participants can register and send their papers/abstracts electronically
