Dear Scholars, Students, NGO and governmental representatives:
We are happy to announce PSPC2012- a great opportunity to gain exposure to
other cultures while expanding your social network and adding valuable
interest to your resume.
The 5th Annual Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection Conference (Poverty,
Rural Development and Social Policy) will take place from 8-10 March 2012 in
the beautiful city of Bangkok, Thailand.
This three-day program is unlike most academic conferences, and will focus
on issues of poverty and its eradication, rural development, social policies,
social inequality, race relations and policy management and mismanagement with
an international perspective. As poverty continues to be an ongoing, often-
inhumane problem, this conference aims to provide a comparative perspective in
analyzing past/current trends and conditions to better understand the never-
ending downward spiral many individuals and families find themselves in.
The 5th Annual Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection Conference (Poverty,
Rural Development and Social Policy) will address questions regarding the role
and importance of equal distribution of resources and social inclusion, the
potential roles and impacts less-developed countries have on politics,
business, education and the public sector and major social and economic trends
and their potential for poverty reduction.
PSPC2012 will welcome scholars, NGO representatives, corporate and
Governmental representatives gathered with a common goal- that of poverty
reduction and to increase social responsibility. Fostering partnerships and
international cooperation are integral steps towards notable change.
Integral part of the conference is visit to Duang Prateep Foundation and the
biggest slums in Bangkok- Klong Toey. This is an area of Bangkok that most
tourists will never visit. It is the slums where the poorest people live. Here
you will meet real Thai people, people who are dealing with the harshest
aspects of life in Bangkok. They are friendly with nothing to offer but a
sincere smile. They are happy to see visitors, it shows people care. A visit
to Klong Toey will leave you questioning what you thought you knew about
Thailand, and perhaps even about yourself and what you thought you valued.
We welcome: ORAL, POSTER and VIRTUAL presentations. Deadline for abstract
submissions is 1st February 2012. Early submissions are strongly encouraged
due to limited space in the venue, as applications are reviewed on a rolling
admission basis- as long as space is available.
Themes and topics include, but are not limited to:
Poverty Growth and Inequality, Poverty Reduction Strategies, Public Health,
Access to Education, Poverty Measurement and Analysis, Empowerment Strategies,
Rural Development, Social Capital, Social Risk Management, Labor Market
Policies, Pension Reforms, Children and Youth, People with Disabilities,
Disadvantaged Groups, Social Policies and other related areas.
Papers presented at the conference will be published in dedicated ISBN
publication of PSPC2012 Conference Proceedings.
We look forward to seeing you in Bangkok in March 2012!
Sincerely,
PSPC2012 Organizing Committee

NOTE: Most of Thailand provinces and inner Bangkok, including the area
conference hotel is located in, were NOT affected by recent flooding that
occurred in some provinces in Northern and central Thailand. Moreover, as
waters recede in affected areas, big clean ups have been organized by Thai
government and situation is now back to normal. There should be no reason for
safety concerns for international travelers, who are already coming back to
Thailand in a big number.
