TISS-Max Planck Post Doctoral and Doctoral Fellowships 2010-2011
Applications are currently being invited for TISS-Max Planck Post Doctoral and Doctoral 
Fellowships 2010-2011. Last date of submission of Application Form is January 18, 2011
The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) is internationally recognised for its excellence in education, research and field action. 
It has contributed significantly to policies and debates on socially relevant issues and problems. With its experienced and 
accomplished faculty, strong links with the profit and non-profit sectors, a dynamic student community, a well-equipped library, 
and IT resources, TISS provides meaningful opportunities for research. (TISS website www.tiss.edu)
The postdoctoral and doctoral fellowships are supported through a TISS-Max Planck Institute (Germany) and PUKAR 
(Mumbai) collaborative project on 'Urban Aspirations in Global Cities'.
Thematic Areas of Focus
The doctoral fellowships are for a three-year period and the post doctoral fellowship is for duration of one year. 
Broad areas for post doctoral and doctoral research:
? Migration, globalization and religious mobilization
? Role of media technology and media practices for religious dynamics in Mumbai
? Ethnographic analysis of religious media practices and urban life in Mumbai
Eligibility
? Applicants for  post doctoral fellowship should have completed Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology or Sociology or any other
relevant area at least two years ago from an Indian University or any foreign University. 
? Applicants for doctoral fellowships should have completed M.Phil. in Cultural Anthropology or Social Sciences or Humanities
or Urban Planning or other related disciplines OR should have M.A. in any one of the above disciplines and 5 years of work
experience in the proposed area of work.
