I am pleased to forward the following academic offers proposed by the Virtual Institute's extended network of partners. I hope you find them of interest.
UNCTAD invites academics and policymakers from the Latin America and Caribbean region to apply for participation in its 26th regional course on Key Issues on the International Economic Agenda, to be held February 4 - 22 at Vi core Colombian member, Universidad EAFIT, in Medellín.
The course will focus on the links between trade, investment, finance and development, including in the context of international trade negotiations. Its aims are to enhance understanding of the relationships among these areas and their links to countries' development strategies, and to provide participants with knowledge and skills for the design and implementation of trade and development policies, and for trade negotiations corresponding to the needs and interests of their countries.
The course will be given in English, with simultaneous interpretation into Spanish. Training materials will be made available in English, with some documentation in Spanish. Candidates are expected to have a full working of knowledge of English.
UNCTAD will provide hotel accommodation for all participants, who will also receive sufficient funds to cover daily meals and miscellaneous expenses. Travel expenses covering the least costly fare will be provided for participants from the least developed countries (LDCs).
Applications will be accepted until November 23.
The United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) invites expressions of interest from researchers to collaborate in its new research initiative on the politics of domestic resource mobilization for social development.
The project seeks to contribute to global debates on the political and institutional contexts that enable poor countries to mobilize domestic resources for social development. It will examine the processes and mechanisms that connect the politics of resource mobilization and demands for social provision; changes in state-citizen and donor-recipient relations associated with resource mobilization and allocation; and governance reforms that can lead to improved and sustainable revenue yields and services.
Submissions must be sent to [email protected] no later than November 25.
The Graduate Institute in Geneva is accepting applications for its Global South Scholar-In-Residence Programme, which offers a one-semester research/teaching fellowship.
The programme is open to outstanding young professors from universities from developing and emerging countries pursuing advanced research in areas bridging the fields of international and development studies, broadly defined, and working in disciplines such as anthropology, history, law, politics and political science, and economics.
One of the current fellows is Vi associate member, Olayinka Idowu Kareem, who is also a participant of the Vi online course on Trade and Poverty.
Applications for the 2013 fall semester will be accepted until March 1.
