The Person and the Job
Are you passionate about numbers and econometrics excites you? Are you planning to do a PhD in near future, but before committing to that, you want to get work experience and academic publications? Are you interested in rural development and agricultural issues and want to apply your quantitative data analysis skills in unraveling policy relevant questions? If your answer is yes to all the above questions, then you are the person we are looking for. International Water Management Institute (IWMI) is looking for a Consultant (Econometrics) at their New Delhi office.
As Consultant, you will:
? work on an ongoing impact evaluation project;
? work with primary survey data collected by IWMI and with secondary data from NSSO and similar sources;
? provide quantitative data analysis assistance to senior researchers at IWMI New Delhi office;
? write reports and journal articles; and
? provide assistance with proposal writing and donor reporting.
You must possess:
? a Master's in Economics with a specialization in Econometrics from a reputed University;
? 1-3 years of experience in working with a research organization. However, fresh graduates with strong econometric skills may also apply;
? an excellent understanding of cross section, time series and panel data analysis techniques and must have used some or all of these in your Master's thesis or as a part of previous research assignment and must submit evidence of the same;
? high level of competency in database management and econometric packages such as STATA, SAS, R or SPSS; and
? excellent writing and communication skills to be supported by either published or unpublished papers and/or presentations made at conferences.
It would be useful if you had:
? a broad understanding of land and water management issues as they relate to food security and climate change in South Asia;
? experience of handling large data bases such as those of NSSO of India or those generated through primary surveys;
? experience of conducting questionnaire surveys; and
? a self-driven and self-motivated attitude; and
? ability to work with least amount of supervision.
A competitive all-inclusive consultancy fee will be offered to the right candidate. This is a fixed duration position of one year starting October 2011.
? Updated CV with full list of publications;
? three examples of published/unpublished papers. It may be term papers/essays done as a part of your coursework; and
? three reference letters, of which at least one has to be from teacher/supervisor who has taught you econometrics and another from past employer, if any.
