Capacity Building and Training Workshop on Village Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) and Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) Modelling: Application in Agricultural Research and Development Studies
November 3 ? 10, 2014
Venue:  D.T. Lakdawala Hall
Gujarat Institute of Development Research
Ahmedabad
Organized by:
Rationale:
Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) and Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) models are very widely used for ex-ante and ex-post assessment of direct and indirect impacts of policy interventions, including its distributional implications, and impacts across social institutions. They help capture a wider set of economic impacts of the implementation of a specific policy reforms. The village SAM and CGE are used to understand the full range of impacts of policies and programmes. However, despite the importance of these models, there is an inadequate expertise in this area in developing countries. These tools are usually not included in the present syllabus of MS and Ph.D. programmes of most of the agricultural universities in India, and in other developing countries. Thus, many of the empirical analytical issues that demand the application of SAM and CGE remain unanswered.
