IARIW- Statistics South Africa Conference on Experiences and Challenges in Measuring National Income, Wealth, Poverty, and Inequality in Sub-Saharan African Countries

In partnership with Statistics South Africa, the International Association of Research in Income and Wealth (IARIW) is organizing a conference on the theme of experiences and challenges in Measuring National Income, Wealth, Poverty, and Inequality in Sub-Saharan African Countries. The conference will take place in Cape Town, South Africa. The conference will take place during the second half of September, 2011; exact dates will be announced shortly.
The objective of the conference is to further our understanding, from an empirical and measurement perspective, developments in the area of income levels, income growth, productivity, poverty, and inequality. The conference will have sessions dealing with problems and issues in macro measurement issues such as national income and productivity measurement in Sub Saharan Africa. It will also have sessions dealing with micro measurement issues such as problems and challenges in the measurement of poverty and inequality using income and non-income approaches, objective and subjective well-being measurement, and associated statistical and methodological issues. Selected papers from the conference will be published in a special issue of the Review of Income and Wealth.
IARIW members and other researchers interested in organizing a session or presenting a paper at the conference on a topic related to the conference theme are invited to submit a proposal for a sessions or an individual paper.
To submit a session proposal, provide a description of the themes and objectives of the session and include the names and affiliations of the chair and paper giver as well as a title of the session and title and short abstracts of the papers.
Proposals for sessions and abstracts for individual papers should be emailed to IARIW Executive Director Andrew Sharpe at [email protected] by January 31, 2011.
Some financial assistance for participating in the conference is available for presenters and organizers of sessions. If assistance is needed, please indicate in the proposal.
