GDN Awards


Launched by the Global Development Network in 2000, the Awards
and Medals Competition seeks to encourage quality research and
innovative development projects. Winners will be awarded cash prizes,
training and a chance to present their work at GDN's 12th Annual
Global Development Conference at Bogotá in January 2010.
Research Themes
? External Capital Flows and Financing for Development
? Domestic Resource Mobilization and Financial Sector Development
? Innovative Sources of Development Finance
Categories
1. Japanese Award for Outstanding Research on Development
For organization/ researcher(s) whose proposal to conduct research on
any one of the three research themes holds the greatest promise for
improving our understanding of the relevant issue.
First Prize: US $30,000; Second Prize: US $5,000
Deadline: 18th October 2010
2. Medals for Research on Development
For completed research work that demonstrates academic excellence
on the themes specified above.
First Prize: US $10,000; Second prize: US $5,000
Deadline: 18th October 2010
3. Japanese Award for Most Innovative Development Project
For projects and/or organizations that are carrying out original and
innovative work in the field. These projects are not theme based.
However, projects must contribute to sustainable development.
First Prize: US $30,000; Second prize: US $5,000
(Winners are also eligible to compete for the Japan Social
Development Fund grant of up to US$ 200,000 for their work.)
Deadline: 9th September 2010
Who can apply
? Researchers who are citizens and permanent residents of
developing and transition countries.
? Researchers who are citizens of developing/ transition countries who
are temporarily based in a developed country (for more than five years.)
? Researchers who are less than 45 years old as on 18th October 2010.
? Staff of bilateral/multilateral agencies cannot apply.
? Development projects being implemented in Africa, Asia, Middle
East, Latin America and the Caribbean, Pacific Islands, and the
transition economies of Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
? Projects being managed by an NGO headquartered in one of the
above regions.
? Projects implemented before 30th June 2009.
? Finalist projects from previous three years cannot apply.
? Projects that applied previously (not finalists) may re-apply with
updates.
