The Tertiary Education Commission, Mauritius is organising its second international Conference entitled 'Higher Education and Economic Development'. The objective is to address new paradigms in higher education: knowledge economy, skill gap, linkages with the world of work and contemporary issues in tertiary education.

Please note that the keynote address on the role of tertiary education in economic and social development and the new challenges faced by tertiary education systems in developing economies will be delivered by Dr Jamil Salmi, former World Bank Tertiary Education Coordinator and author of 'Challenge of Establishing World-Class Universities' and 'The Road to Academic Excellence: the Making of World-Class Research Universities'. Other speakers include Prof Manuel Castells, Annenberg School of Communication, University of Southern
California, USA, Dr Nico Cloete, Director of the Council for Higher Education and Transformation, Republic of South Africa and Prof Pundy Pillay, Professor of Economics and Public Finance at the Graduate School for Public and Development Management, Witwaterstrand University, Republic of South Africa.

The deadline for abstracts/proposals is 15 May 2012.
