Fifth Annual Himalayan Policy Research Conference - A focus on SAARC Countries: Call for Abstracts Fifth Annual Himalayan Policy Research Conference - A focus on SAARC countries: South Asia Association for Regional Cooperation Nepal Study Center, University of New Mexico (October 14, 2010, Madison at the pre-conference venue of the U. of Wisconsin--Madison's 39th Conference on South Asia, October 14-17, 2010) The Nepal Study Center is pleased to announce the /Fifth Annual Himalayan Policy Research Conference/. The Conference will be held in Madison, Wisconsin at the University of Wisconsin's 39th Annual Conference on South Asia 's pre-conference venue on October 14, 2010, at the Madison Concourse Hotel. (Attention: We also encourage you to attend the Annual Conference on South Asia which begins on October 15th at the same venue. For their registration information click here .) *Topics:* We invite you to send an abstract of your research, recently completed or in progress, in the field of development, democracy, governance, or environment. We consider these fields broadly as encompassing socio-economic growth (macro or sectoral), political transition, institutional development, governance and administrative reform, poverty and income distribution, education and health, regional development, gender and ethnicity, trade and remittances, aid and foreign direct investment, resource and environmental management, public-private partnership in technology and investment, child labor, and many other issues. The papers are expected to have important implications for public policy in one or more countries of the *Himalayan region or South Asia . * *Abstract submission guidelines: * We accept electronic as well as paper submissions of abstracts. Abstract submission guideline: Abstract Outline: 1. Authors, affiliations, email addresses; 2. Status of research/paper: /a. Complete b. Writing stage c. Data analysis phase d. Data collection phase e. Completion of desk study and data collection to begin /f. Conceptual state; 3. Title of the paper; 4. Background; 5. Methods; 6. Results (if any at this stage); 7. Conclusions (if any at this stage). If you are also interested in serving as a session chair or discussant, please include information on the subject areas in which you will be willing to serve. *Abstract submission deadline:* The submission deadline is June 30, 2010. Your timely response will be highly appreciated. *Final Paper submission deadline:* September 30th. Please attach a word document (not PDF). *Registration Fee: * Non-SAARC $50.00; Students (non-SAARC) $30.00; SAARC Countries $20.00 *Papers, Abstracts, and Proceedings of the Himalayan Journal of Development and Democracy (HJDD):* After the conclusion of the conference, HJDD will be publishing a conference proceeding. You will be invited to submit an expanded version of the abstract for publication in the proceedings. Publication of your expanded abstract in the proceeding will not prevent you from submitting your work in other traditional journals. We also strongly encourage you to submit your perliminary draft version of your working papers for dissemination through the NSC's Himalayan Research Papers Archive .
