ICIMOD values the potential role that young people can play in promoting sustainable mountain development. To inform, empower, and involve youth from the region in the development process, ICIMOD has implemented more than 48 major events dedicated to youth engagement since the launch of the Youth for Sustainable Mountain Development (Y4SMD) initiative in August 2009. Started in 2009, Y4SMD now has a network of around 4,000 youth from the Asia Pacific region and few more from other regions. A majority of them are from ICIMOD's regional member countries ? Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Pakistan. A dedicated ever-growing discussion list is joined by over 2000 enthusiasts(mostly youth) and our dedicated Facebook platform is liked by over 2650 members. List of ICIMOD youth activities can be accessed at http://www.icimod.org/?q=8248 (currently being updated).
